All universities and higher educational institutions across the country have been directed to accept fees payments through digital payments only by The Govt. of India. They have to ensure that no payment should be made in cash mode from the upcoming academic session.

University Grants Commission (UGC) is preparing to issue an essential advisory to all higher educational institutions on all monetary transactions should be made through digital modes of payment as per the HRD Ministry direction.

“All receipts and payments related to the functioning of the institutions including student fees, exam fees, vendor payments and salary/wage payments shall be made ‘only’ through online or digital modes,” the directive sent to university heads.

“For all students’ service in the hostels, the digital mode should be used for all transactions. All canteens and business establishments on the campus may be encouraged to resort to only digital modes for their receipts and payments using the BHIM app by linking their bank accounts with Aadhaar,” it added.

All higher educational institutes and the universities have been directed to recognize all existing transactions being carried out in cash and get solutions for restoring them with digital payments modes.

The universities have also been ordered to appoint a nodal officer for the purpose and send a monthly report to the UGC.
