Any device, it may be PC, Tab or Smartphone most important thing user look for or concerned about storage space. Fast installing applications and games, downloading and saving songs and movies to any storage disk may cause unused part of memory. These portions do absorb an amount of space unnecessarily.

These spaces are kept unused unnecessarily and user may think that these spaces are actually absorbed by their files.

User can recover and utilize these unused parts of storage. Delete or remove ‘junk’ files from your hard disk and Defragmentation all the spaces to appropriate parts on hard disk.

Removing the ‘junk’ files:

This method helps recovering a few quantities of space and increase the speed of the device. Junk files may be installation files, OS update files and browsers and system process generated cache memory.

Step 1: Go to Start and type ‘Disk Cleanup’ on search programs and files option. Delete the files that are stored on the computer and using more memory.

Step 2: Select the drive from the drop-down menu you want to clean. You may start with your main hard disk partition.

Step 3: After that, you can view the files and folders take up more memory. Select all those and Click on ‘Clean up system files’.

Step 4: Make sure that you selected all the files and folders and click ‘Ok’. Any temporarily stored files will be deleted from your drive and computer.

Then you do again the same process for all other drives.

Defragmentation: This is another disk cleaning method. This method rearranges memory space covered by all the unused files to reuse unused space.

To defragment your hard disk

Step 1: Click on the Start button and type Disk Defragmenter in the search box and then, in the list of results, click Disk Defragmenter.

Step 2: Under Current status, select the disk you want to defragment.

Step 3: To determine if the disk needs to be defragmented or not, click Analyze disk.

Provide the password or confirmation, if you’re prompted for an administrator password or confirmation,

Step 4: Once analyzing the disk is finished, check the percentage of fragmentation on the disk in the Last Run column. You should defragment the disk, if the percentage is above 10%.

Step 5: Click Defragment disk.

If any window is prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
